Following is an interview about Silkroad from Jung Hun Kwag, a member of the Global Team in Joymax.
MMOsite.com: First off, can you introduce yourself, what is your role in the SRO team?
Jung Hun Kwag: My name is Jung Hun Kwag and I am a member of the Global Team here at Joymax. We handle most everything connected to the international edition of Silk Road Gold.
MMOsite.com: We all know that SRO is one of the world's most popular games with well over 2,000,000 players worldwide. Why SRO can attract so many players? What major challenges did you encounter while developing SRO?
Jung Hun Kwag: We are also in the top ten in time played worldwide as well. I believe that the reason why so many players are attracted to the game is that it is something entirely different to what they have been exposed to before.
In a field crowded with D&D clones, Tolkeinesque parody, and elves, elves, elves everywhere; our game stands out for its different inspiration: a fusion of history and stories of those societies that lived along the real Silk Road Gold. The difference seeps into all parts of the game; from combat, economic, and job systems all tying tightly into the history and legends while giving you diversity in how you go about playing these stories. We do not place arbitrary restrictions on your characters in what they can or cannot do. You can be a shadowy thief preying on caravans one day and be a hardy trader on a caravan the next. No arbitrary limits on what you do or who you can be.
All this without a monthly charge. We do not force you to feel like you have to play x amount of hours in order to justify a subscription. You do not pay for your enjoyment of the game. You pay for things that may enhance certain aspects but only for what you want.
Oh and everything is purty too. I can confidently say we have the best visually animated experience that can be gotten in an MMO.
The challenge at first was in convincing people that something new like this would be fun and would be compelling. As you can see, I think that challenge has been overcome. But we strive everyday to make it even better.
